Our clients had dreamt of a home just steps from the beach and with sweeping views of the ocean. They found it, but the home was very dated and in bad physical shape, so extensive renovation work was required. We set to work with the architect who originally designed the home and collaborated to produce a fresh riff on the once Mediterranean inspired architecture. Arches and columns were removed from the exterior and crisp millwork and finishes were incorporated into the interior, all of which was essentially re-invented. The third floor was vaulted and walls removed to maximize ocean views for what is the main living area of the home. Relating the furnishings to these references, we kept the interior casual, with a light, tone-on-tone palette, lots of texture, comfortable, contemporary furnishings, and natural fabrics throughout. Then we added in a few found objects and modern art to give each room a distinctive edge.
